It was a trip back to the 90’s as the Queens of R&B tour came down to Scotiabank Arena this past Sunday. Toronto was blessed to be in the presence of some absolutely undeniable talent with Xscape, SWV, Mya, Total, and 702 performed all of their biggest hits and classics to a completely sold out arena.

The night started out with two new groups taking the stage as surprise performers for the night. PsiRyn (pronounced Siren), who are signed to Xscape’s Kandi Burruss’ label featured some cover performances to hype things up. They were followed by The OMG Girlz, created by Xscape’s Tiny and featured her daughter Zonnique Jailee Pullins on the vocals . Both groups nailed the vocals and did a great job at warming up the crowd for the billed acts.

702 started things off and ended their set with their 1999 smash single Where My Girls At”. They also took a moment to pay respect to their third member, Irish Grinstead, who passed away last year. Total came next with hits like “What You Want” and “Trippin”.

Mya was an absolute standout, I’ve been a huge fan of hers since she came on the scene and have always loved her music throughout the years. Her dancing and singing were both on point for each of her songs as she performed her hits like “Case of The Ex”, “The Best of Me”, “My Love is Like … Wo”, “Ghetto Superstar” and more. Going through her setlist you can really see just how many massive hits she has had over the years.

The night ended off with the main event off Xscape and SWV. They came out together on the stage before they even started performing to a roaring applause from everyone. For the remained of the night they kept going back and forth with their performances with one group performing 3-4 songs and then switching. Both groups are absolute powerhouses of vocal talent, and hearing them sing live was basically identical to listening to the records. It was an amazing night for everyone that loves good, timeless music.
